Sarah was born 1843 and lived, first of all, at the Crown Inn, Park St, Cheltenham and then at the Shakespeare Inn, High St, Cheltenham. (Now Shamrock) she was the daughter of John and Sarah Clayton and John was the inn-keeper of the Shakespeare Inn from 1859-1870. Robert and Sarah married in 1871 and made their home at 268 High Street, a few doors away from the Inn. they had three children, Herbert Wyndham Mills, Mabel Mills and Gladys Mills. She was their mother's sister. they also had a cousin Sibyl. Mabel did not marry but Gladys married late, to a widower Frederick Seward Heath, in 1921 and they lived at the Sheep House, Tuffley.
